Between fore and rear the ratios of concentrations of these two proteins define an axis of co-ordinates: each point along the axis is characterized by a single ratio of the two proteins.
It results the transcription from it of the necessary genes to specify the segmentary identity of the organism: head, thorax, abdomen, etc.
